This room immerses you in the era of the First Empire. Mamers, which was and still is a garrison town, is then home to the 115th infantry regiment, which was created by Napoleon Ist in 1808. This regiment participated in the entire Spanish campaign. He distinguished himself in particular at the battles of Zaragoza in 1809, Lleida in 1810, Tarragona in 1811 and Toulouse in 1814.

The first command was given to Colonel René Joseph Dupeyroux to fight the Spanish insurrection. The siege of Zaragoza is among the deadliest engagements of the 115th regiment since, at the end of this bloody battle, only 57 officers and 1,277 men remained. The successive series of sieges, including that of Tarragona, gradually exhausted the regiment: we had to take Fortin after Fortin! After being stationed in Barcelona, the 115th regiment trained, under the orders of Marshal Soult, against Wellington’s English army. The same Wellington who will beat Napoleon at Waterloo.

The room is decorated in the Empire and restoration style. Numerous engravings from the Napoleonic era adorn the history of the 115th regiment, including two nautical charts of the battles of Trafalgar and Aboukir, to remind us that Mamers was also at that time a hemp city which manufactured a good number of canvases for the making of sails for ships of the time.
